The End of Something

He looked around and checked his watch. Half the party it seemed had simply disappeared. Fewer numbers and even fewer goodbyes. The rest were increasingly engrossed in their own worlds. The couple in the corner were as good as gone. They'd locked into each other and turned the volume down on everything else. Others stood helpless, blank expressions. He couldn't bring himself to call it a night. As shadows of people getting in their cars stretched along the street, he checked his watch again. It was getting late.
